UNIT HISTORY
1626 holds strong community ties to West Niagara that date back to 1940. The corps was originally formed as 1626 Grimsby High School Cadet Corps on 17 September 1940 and continued under that name until it’s disbandment on 16 May 1968. At which point a new cadet corps was established on 17 Mar 1969 under the corps number 2848, on 23 Aug 1971 a second corps was formed under the number 2888. Current day 1626 is an amalgamation of the 2 cadets corps effective 1 April 1992. With this amalgamation the corps returned to it’s original number of 1626 West Lincoln (Now West Niagara) Army Cadet Corps. The official anniversary date of 1626 is to be 17 Mar 1969.
The corps is affiliated to 31 Signals Regiment out of Hamilton Ontario. It has three co-sponsors: the Royal Canadian Legion Branches No 127 (Grimsby), 393 (Smithville) and 612 (Beamsville).
In 2015 the Corps official designation was changed from 1626 West Lincoln to 1626 West Niagara in an effort to unify the communities that 1626 supports.
